World map illustrating the distribution of plastic particles in the oceans, in particular the plastic granules produced by our business.

Where do the plastic particles released into the ocean come from?

In a context where plastic pollution has become a major global concern, it is essential to understand the sources of this pollution in order to better target reduction efforts. According to an IUCN study reported by AFP, every year around 1.5 million tonnes of primary microplastics are dumped into the oceans. These particles, originating from a variety of human activities, have a significant impact on marine ecosystems.

Of all these sources, our activity accounts for just 0.3% of the primary microplastic residues present in the oceans. This tiny fraction concerns industrial plastic granules, released even before they are transformed into finished products. Although this share is relatively small, we take our responsibility very seriously.

What we are doing to further reduce this footprint:

🔍 Rigorous control of our industrial processes to prevent granules from escaping.
♻️ Filtration and recovery systems in our facilities to capture particles at source.
📢 Ongoing awareness-raising among our teams and partners of the environmental impact of microplastics.‍

‍Aduty to set an example, even at 0.3%‍
‍Although
our contribution is marginal compared with other sources such as synthetic textiles (35%), particles from tire wear (28%) or urban dust (24%), we believe that every gesture counts in preserving our oceans.
‍Reducingunintentional emissions to zero is our long-term goal.
